Individual therapy for Adults & Teens

Red Bank, NJ & Statewide Online Therapy

What is Individual therapy?

Life can get heavy. Whether you're carrying the weight of past trauma, struggling with anxiety or depression, navigating a painful relationship, or simply feeling stuck, individual therapy offers a dedicated space to slow down, make sense of what you're experiencing, and start moving toward change.

At Aspera Therapy in Red Bank, New Jersey, we provide one-on-one therapy for adults and teenagers — in person at our Broad Street office, and virtually for clients throughout New Jersey.

This is not a one-size-fits-all service. Every client receives a personalized treatment plan, shaped collaboratively with their therapist and built around their specific goals, history, and pace.

Therapeutic Modalities

Aspera's team draws from several evidence-based approaches. The methods used in your sessions will depend on your goals, your history, and what your therapist determines is the best clinical fit.

EMDR

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a structured, extensively researched therapy for trauma. It uses bilateral stimulation — typically guided eye movements or other rhythmic left-right sensory input — to help the brain reprocess difficult memories. Over time, clients find they can recall painful events without the same emotional charge or physical reactivity they once felt. EMDR is particularly effective for trauma, PTSD, and anxiety rooted in past experience.

Sand Play therapy

Sand Play Therapy is a more experiential approach that uses sand, water, and small figurative objects to help clients explore their inner world without needing words. Clients build scenes in a sand tray that can reflect their feelings, relationships, struggles, or life story. It's available to children, teens, and adults alike, and is especially valuable in trauma work — particularly for those who find it hard to articulate what they've been through.

Parts Work

Parts Work, influenced by Internal Family Systems (IFS), helps clients identify and engage with distinct inner "parts" of themselves — protective parts, wounded parts, and the core self beneath them — building greater self-understanding and self-compassion over time.

Who Is Individual Therapy For?

Individual therapy at Aspera is for anyone who feels like something in their inner life — or their relationships — isn't working the way they want it to. You don't need to be in crisis to benefit.

Many clients come because they want to understand their own patterns better, break out of old cycles, or process experiences they've never fully worked through.

Our therapists have deep experience supporting people through trauma and PTSD, anxiety, depression, grief, difficult life transitions, eating disorder recovery, low self-worth, attachment wounds, co-dependency, narcissistic abuse, and challenging relationship dynamics.

We also provide LGBTQ-affirming care, and our team is experienced in working with adolescents as well as adults. If something is affecting your daily life, your sense of self, or the people you care about, individual therapy is likely a strong fit.

What to Expect

Your first session is a comprehensive intake. Your therapist will take time to understand your history, your current concerns, and what you're hoping to get out of therapy — and they'll answer any questions you have along the way. Together, you'll begin building a personalized treatment plan shaped around your goals.

Sessions run 50 to 80 minutes. Frequency is tailored to your needs: many clients start with weekly appointments, while others adjust the cadence as they progress. Throughout the process, your therapist works with you, not at you — the relationship is collaborative from the start.

All Aspera therapists work from a holistic, trauma-informed foundation. That means they see you in the full context of your life — your background, your relationships, the systems and experiences that have shaped you — rather than reducing your struggles to a symptom checklist.

How to get started

Aspera Therapy offers a free 15-minute consultation to help you find the right fit. During that call, you can share a bit about what you're looking for, ask any questions, and get connected with a therapist whose background and style are well matched to your needs.

Therapy is not a sign that something is wrong with you — it's a decision to take yourself seriously. If you're ready to take that step, Aspera's team is here to support it.
