Reilly’s Approach to Therapy
Reilly's work is grounded in the belief that meaningful change happens when a person feels genuinely safe — safe enough to slow down, connect with their inner experience, and explore the deeper layers of self that shape how they relate, respond, and grow. She works collaboratively and compassionately, moving at a pace that honors each client's unique needs and history.
A central focus of Reilly's practice is nervous system regulation and mind-body connection — two foundational capacities that she supports clients in building as a prerequisite to deeper healing work. This is particularly relevant in her eating disorder and trauma work, where the body is often at the center of the struggle.
Her clinical approach draws from:
Somatic Therapy A body-centered approach that recognizes the nervous system and bodily sensations as central to how we process emotion, experience, and trauma. Rather than working only at the cognitive level, somatic work helps clients develop greater awareness of and connection to the body's signals as a pathway to healing.
Psychodynamic Theory An approach that explores the unconscious processes shaped by early development and lived experience — bringing to light the patterns that continue to influence present-day thoughts, feelings, and relationships.
Attachment Theory A framework for understanding how early relational experiences shape the templates through which we connect, trust, and regulate emotionally in adulthood and in close relationships.
Systems Theory A perspective that understands individual experience through the constellation of relationships, family dynamics, and environments in which a person is embedded — internally and externally.
DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) A skills-based approach particularly effective for emotional dysregulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness — commonly used in eating disorder and trauma treatment.
MBCT (Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy) An approach that integrates mindfulness practices with cognitive therapy to help clients develop present-moment awareness and interrupt unhelpful thought patterns.
ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) A values-driven approach that helps clients build psychological flexibility — learning to acknowledge difficult thoughts and feelings rather than fight them, and take committed action toward a meaningful life.
